The short version: This Actually Helped is built to need as little of your data as possible. Most tools run entirely in your browser, we don't have user accounts, we don't store what you type, and we don't use tracking or advertising cookies.
Who we are

Tools that run entirely on your device
Most of our tools — including the scam checker, the debt, fuel, shopping, appliance and subscription calculators, the CV roast, ATS detector, parking-appeal generator and breathing tool — do all of their work in your browser. Anything you type stays on your device and is never sent to us or stored anywhere.
Tools that use AI
Two tools — the LinkedIn Translator and the Email Reply Rewriter — send the text you submit to our third-party AI provider, Google (Gemini), to generate a response. We don't store your input or the result. Google processes the text under its own terms, and depending on the plan in use may retain or use submitted data to improve its services. For that reason, please don't paste anything confidential or personal into these tools. Each AI tool also warns you of this on the page.
Cookies and tracking
We don't set tracking or advertising cookies, and we don't use analytics that profile you. If we ever add privacy-friendly analytics, we will update this policy first.
Information our hosting provider processes
Our site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel automatically processes basic technical request data (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. We use your IP address only transiently to rate-limit the AI tools and protect against misuse — we don't build profiles from it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data, including access, correction and erasure. Because we don't hold accounts or store your inputs, we usually have no personal data to act on — but you can contact us at hello@thisactuallyhelped.com with any request or concern, and you can complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
Our tools are intended for general audiences and are not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site evolves. The “last updated” date above always shows the current version.
